I was expecting a lot from this suppliment and man is it good. :) I have yet to try it out in practice yet but everything included is sound and should work without a hitch. Basicly ythese are rules for generating, randomly I might add, OSR style PCs using 3 playing cards very quickly. That's it. 3 playing cards tells you everythign you need to know yo roll up a hero. If that wasn't enough, the dungeon generation is handled to same way, 3 playing cards tells you all you need to know about a room you are currently in and you generate the dungeon as you explore it.

The system is brilliant! There are also some more things included to make your SW session work like the classic dungeon crawling games, and the experience system I think it's beautiful in it's simplicity. Basicaly it assumes that adventurerers want loot to fund their lusting and partying, or magical research or to pay tribute to their god. Or some combination of those things. You spend the money you make in loot to get XP towards an advance, each advance is worth so much XP and the cost of which goes up with rank. It's really infenious. There is also a nice bit about some added effects from spending loot to get xp. Say you spent cash to carouse in your off time, well you might be hung over over from too much partying on your next adventure as a result andhave some detrimental effects, or your spirits may be high and you might get a bonus. All sort of effects like that are included each time you use the XP rules, so they are also a downtime roll table as well.

All in all, this is an exxlent buy. I think they said they were updating it for SWADE soon too. So keep an eye out. In the mean time this is a great little book.

OSR RpG and SW system seemed impossible bedfellows before this title came out. No more! SuperFast random character generation (yeah, they're cannon fodder and they know it!), hyperFun random dungeon generators, some damn Furious dungeoncrawl action... and no brooding, somber existentialist PCs at last! This author is a damn good evil genius! ;-)

P.S. You wanna XP? You do have to pay for 'em!

For years, many people have claimed that Savage Worlds can't do dungeon crawls. Gold & Glory proves otherwise, combining old school concepts (like random character generation and encounter tables) with more modern ideas (such as usage dice and simplified encumbrance), blending them seamlessly with the Savage Worlds system to form a cohesive and versatile toolkit.

If you like Savage Worlds and dungeon crawls, you need this book.

This is an awesome companion for anyone wanting to run an old-school D&D-style dungeon crawl in Savage Worlds. There are some really nice random hero and dungeon generators, and the usage die is a clever abstract way to track torches without having to keep time. The simple encumbrance system, like Zadmar's in his Savage Armoury supplement, allows you to easily track how much loot and gear your heroes are carrying without getting bogged down with pedantic calculations. The only thing I think is missing from the old-school experience is some hexcrawl rules, but hopefully there will be a further supplement for these.

My first roleplaying experience was like many others in the form of a dungeon crawler. Over time I grew away from the systems that typically portrayed these and found my way to Savage Worlds. While SW is an amazing system, it always lacked a certain nostalgia that I had for dungeon crawls and their ilk. I can now officially say that this is no longer the case as Gold & Glory scratches the old school fantasy itch incredibly well.

At first I thought that this would handle random dungeon creation with several example dungeons, and while it does so splendidly, the first 50ish pages include fast and random character creation, gear, rules to tweak the Magic and Miracles backgrounds to better reflect that D&D feel, easy encumberance rules, and some other nifty setting rules. I was expecting a random dungeon generator, what I got was that and so much more.

As a bonus, I think that this product is fantastic for GMs new to Savage Worlds, particularly the monsters found in the book. Many of them simply use the stats of a beasty from the core rules with a few changes to give a whole new feel to the creature. It captures the essence of trappings, something I really like about Savage Worlds as a whole.

All in all, if you love SW and want it to have that classic door-bashing, gold-stealing action, look no further.
