Quite bluntly, Dean has no real competition in the stock art community.

Collectanea Creaturae - Fate Core
Publisher: Ebon Gryphon Games
by John B. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 09/28/2015 14:06:04

Details of purchase:

I grabbed the PDF and hardback bundle, and it was printed and received in less than a week.

Review of book:

Simply excellent. While the truth is, all monsters are a few aspects and some stress consequence slots, this is the best example of how to make monsters and NPC enemies for the players on the market. It heavily expands on the needed example of such features as multi-zone enemies, units, and how to work in special abilities.

The art is no worse than AD&D 1st edition, and still is able to evoke the creatures they describe. Still, you won't buy this for the art.

The book fits on the shelf with your other fate books, as well. Making it an excellent addition to your collection.

It doesn't hurt that it's cheap, as well.

Hentacle
Publisher: Postmortem Studios
by John B. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 01/28/2005 00:00:00

NOTE: I purchased the print copy of this game directly from the publisher, and also purchased a PDF copy of the product.

Looking through the PDF, I could not wait for the card-game to arrive from the publisher. When it arrived, both me and my wife sat down and played a few hands of the game.

It was fun!

No, really: The card game system would have even been fun without the referances to anime's darker cousin, and was easy to figure out in just a few minutes. The point of the game is simple enough: Play cards to earn points, and the player with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Sound simple? It is, but it's not easy. I had my wife beat by over 40 points in our last game, and her last hand caught-up and passed me before I could recover. This is a game that takes thought, skill, and a certain ruthlessness.

I give it a 10 out of 10 for two reasons:

  1. It amused me for more than 5 minutes. Considering my attention span, that's worth an award.
  2. It does not depend on only the theme to make it interesting. The game itself is well thought out and plays better than some major card games I've had the misfortune of buying.

<br><br><b>LIKED</b>: Fun, well designed game play. Amusing theme. Maker was brave enough to publish it. That takes some serious brass.<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: The PDF would be really hard to get printed professionally without getting carted off by the police. <br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Excellent<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Very Satisfied<br>

Modern Character Backgrounds
Publisher: 93 Games Studio
by John B. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 01/05/2005 00:00:00

Generally, it's a character background, complete with photo. Each page (wide format) has several paragraphs of character history and personality, with a photo on white background. It overall has a clean, if simple, layout. Really nothing bad you can say about it, since it is what it says it is.

Good way to get a quick character dosier, and can even be printed out for a "here's our file on the person" handout with little work. The lack of stats could even be considered a bonus in that case.<br><br><b>LIKED</b>: The photos were a nice touch, and each character was unique, even if a little mundane. Then again, that was the point of this product.<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: No d20 (or any other) stats, though those are easy enough to pick directly from the d20 modern example character types. <br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Very Good<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Satisfied<br>

Four-Color to Fantasy: Superhero Toolkit (Original 3.0 Version)
Publisher: EN Publishing
by John B. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 08/18/2002 00:00:00

Alright, to begin with, I only downloaded the book over a day ago. In this time I printed, and had bound the pages at a local print shop of about two dollars... This means that the cost of the product is about $10 U.S. including my time and trouble. This review will keep this in mind...

This book is much more than just a super-hero game for D20, it is a set of balanced rules to allow permanent powers into your fantasy game. If you have ever has a player ask you for a character with flaming wings and a sword of holy energy that appears when needed, then this is for you. After just a few hours, a realized the basic hero class could be added into any characer's class list and not even suspend belief! Not only that, but these rules can be used to act a cybernetics, bio-enhancments, personal enchantments, or godlike powers. I was able to give a 1st level wizard a low cost power that allowed her to throw blasts of fire at about 10' for 1d6 dmg as a ranged touch attack to allow her a choice when a fight broke out. Even checking the power level of a 10th level hero, it does not overpower any other character classes, especially since the basic hero class NEEDS other classes (like fighter, rogue, etc...) to use them at full strength... The only thing I can say is: If you like to take your fantasy over the top, like to have fighters survive getting thrown through walls, sorcerers throw bursts of eldrich energy, and rogues that can really walk the ethereal shadows, then this PDF is not even optional... Get it today!

John Bowden Mr. Oberon
