Herald of the End of Time

Astronomers have theorized that our sun is not alone in its journey areound the galaxy, but is accompanied by an unknown second star of dim radiance. This second star, while perhaps invisible from Earth even with the finest optics, would periodically pass close enough to our solar system to have far-reaching effects upon the evolution of this planet.

This is a campaign-length adventure for 4-6 experienced investigators. The suspicious death of a former teacher draws the investigators into an adventure with cosmic import.

Originally published in 1982, this new edition includes modified episode scene changes, player-handouts guide for the keeper, and new illustrations and diagrams.

Will this come out for 7e or will a POD for the older one become available?

"Spawn of Azathoth" is a pulpy scenario in the style of Indiana Jones'. It's rather well written, adhering to a logic "tree of clues" and portraying rather interesting NPC:s. While the opportunities are not as railroaded as in "Shadows of Yog-Sothoth", the basic structure follows a similar globetrotting mission to prevent the end of the world. The Investigators are sent from Providence to the mountains of Montana to the coast of Florida to the Andaman islands on to the Dreamlands and finally to Tibet. I personally felt that the two last chapters were a bit too much; I would prefer to expand the isolated Andaman locale for the final show-down. Alas, for a horror game many Call of Cthulhu scenarios seem more concerned with displaying as many exotic locations as possible than to actually make each encounter significant and to maximise its inherent scare factor. Handing the Investigators magical objects (instead of isolating them in a hostile environment) and sending the Investigators...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
