Hybrid Blood

ADD TO WISHLIST >
Selected Option:

Strange gods or wizardly interference has blended animal and man. By practice, accident, or even nature, the beast people have risen to live against and with humanity in all its varied cultures and origins. Two legs or four, they stand ready to spice up your adventure as allies, antagonists, or player options.

In a world steeped with magic, even the most unlikely matches are occasionally made. Sometimes through wildly inventive sorcery, the interference of otherworldly gods, or even the spark of true love may bring two distant lines together. Such creatures may be an anomaly, or give rise to whole new species.

Even if one doesn’t force blood together that normally would remain separated as water and oil, the nurture side of what makes a person who they are cannot be denied. What if your halfling was raised by orcs? Or that orc was brought up by elves? Without a single physical exchange, lines can be brought together.

  • Hundreds of racial combinations
  • A new race (the beast people) designed to cover the animal kingdom.
  • New Feats
  • New Magic to blur racial lines
  • Reincarnation handled with grace and ease
  • Compatible with Pathfinder, Starfinder, and 5th Edition!

One quick comment: on page 74, under the language entry for Orc-Raised, the words 'Everglow Race Upbringings' have no place in an orc's vocabulary.

The words 'Everglow Race Upbringings' should be the intro of a new section, not a few extra words on the language entry for the orc upbringing.

Hello! Is there a reason that Planar Raised has only 5E attributes and no Pathfinder attributes associated?

Some traits are PF only as well. Often this is because something in PF has no allowable copy we can use in 5E, so 5E gets some stuff to make up for it, and here we are.

Two questions; I am planning on running a game, so I decided to get creative with what the players may ask me if they make their character a hybrid, two jumped out at me; say you have an ooze blooded elf bodied character, why would they be mute and fingerless? The second question is about mute as a whole, could you cast minor illusion to cast a spell requiring vocal on your next turn?

Mute is composite, and elf doesn't have it, so an ooze-elf can speak.
Fingerless is also composite, and elf doesn't have it, so an ooze-elf has fingers.
Now if you were, say, an ooze-wolf, you would be fingerless. They are not mute, so an ooze-wolf could speak but still has no fingers.

I recommend taking another look at 5e human traits. Ideally, to recreate the benefits of a basic human, you need three favored stats and three additional stat points, rather than two and two. In fact, on page 26 it says humans created by the hybrid system will end up a bit stronger than the basic version, due to the inclusion of an upbringing quality. However, this seem directly contradicted by the reality of how it's handled. With one specific exception, I can't find any results that support this claim (specifically, a rogue with "rat raised").

In my opinion, either "human blooded" or "unshackled destiny" should give two favored scores of choice and +1 to an ability score that doesn't already get modified by your race, while the other quality should give a single favored score of choice and +1 to two ability scores not already altered by your race. This way, you cover all the territory, while not having two completely identical qualities, or one that's twice as effective...See more

I can only speak for the 5e stuff, as I've never played PF. However, within that specific framework, some constructive criticism:

1) Deep Blooded and Thought Tainted (p. 58 and p. 62, respectively) need to be paired up, even if you can't legally use the term for the race they're supposed to represent. Call them 'cortex consumers' or maybe 'noggin nibblers' if you insist on letting the computer sort the content automatically by racial ancestry.

2) Rat Blooded should favor DEX and perhaps CON, not STR (it also should not have the goblinoid tag, unless every source I can find for them is wrong!). You might also toss in rodent empathy: You gain advantage to Wisdom (Animal Handling) when dealing with rodents.

3) Aasimar are already a hybrid race, just as half-elves and half-orcs are. Thus, Aasimar Blooded and Aasimar Bodied should be combined into a single trait: Angel Blooded. It should favor CHA and grant celestial type (composite), darkvision, celestial resistance, and the...See more

I find a number of qualities that include traits with the following setup: [Trait A] ([Trait B] Dependent or Composite). Does this mean [Trait A] (Composite or [Trait B] Dependent), or does it mean [Trait A] ([Trait B] Composite or [Trait B] Dependent)? It might not make much difference in the long run, but I feel certain that choosing wording that minimizes the chance of misunderstanding would be greatly appreciated by those who choose to purchase this product.

Quadruped and Four-Legged both fit this bill in every case, I think. Specifically, they have (Fingerless Dependent or Composite)... even for the few quadrupedal races which do, in fact, have fingers. Without checking the PDF, I can't recall any other qualities that fit the bill off the top of my head.

If both races have quadruped, composite activates!
If either race has fingerless, dependant activates!
If neither is true, no quadruped for you.
Note that fingerless itself tends to be composite(meaning both have to have it for it to do anything), so if both races have fingerless, but one has quadruped? You're a quadruped without fingers.
Phew! Hope that helps.

The problem is with the way it's presented. According to the rules given for hybrids, there's a difference between composite and trait composite characteristics, and the way dependent and composite are ordered in the entries makes it unclear whether quadruped is supposed to be a composite added onto fingerless, or a trait composite that *replaces* fingerless. In the latter case, it makes them sound gorilla-like, in that you need all four legs for locomotion, but you still have usable hands. This is perfectly appropriate for dragons and certain other monsters, but not for horses and wolves and such. Thus, phrasing it in a fashion that can be interpreted *at least* three different ways only makes it that much more difficult to understand what you intended in the first place.

In that case, you seriously need to take a second look at the aasimar physical qualities. Like, try taking a look at the actual game statistics, and try to get anywhere within a mile of it. As it stands, the ones you've put in your book aren't even on the same continent. At the same time, try a rewrite of the genasi qualities (air blooded, earth blooded, fire blooded, water blooded, water bodied), with an eye toward a similar goal. In fact, if there's an official version of any given race, try to get reasonably close to it. Aside from the stuff in the PHB, it seems you intentionally deviate wildly from the official stats. Sometimes you don't even use the right name for the race! For example: catfolk, ifrit, sylph, oread, undine (which is a twofer, BTW, since you got the wrong name for two different races with that one!), ratfolk, etc. And for heaven's sake, centaurs HAVE fingers to start with! They should NOT get fingerless (composite)! EVER!

Don't get me wrong, I love this book, and I'm trying to...See more

Hi, one of the writers here, particularly of the 5th edition content. You made a good point about the ordering of a composite or trait dependent, which I have reversed the ordering of in the design doc for future updates. As for the difference between our hybrids and any first party content is mostly due to the constraints of the SRD that this book is released under. Essentially, we legally cannot refer to any first party content that is not released under the SRD, so instead we converted their rough pathfinder equivalents over to 5th edition

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
