It's back . . . and the fear has grown!

GURPS Horror, Fourth Edition, is the latest incarnation of one of the most popular GURPS supplements ever . . . and now it's been given a new lease on unnatural life by horror master Kenneth Hite. Its time-tested advice on running scary campaigns has been expanded to include current trends and tropes, showing you how to run everything from old-fashioned Gothic and supernatural horror to the latest J-horror, survival horror, and torture horror. The famous bibliography of unspeakable tomes and frightening films has grown to match. And the monsters return with unpleasant friends, as monsters inevitably do - all with GURPS Fourth Edition racial templates that let you use them as foes, as sinister Allies and cursed Alternate Forms, and even as PCs! Add the new and disturbing powers, the expanded rules for madness and corruption, and countless other updates, and you have everything you need to drag your horror campaign screaming into the 21st century.

I own a copy (from E23) and the structure and framework of this book is for a different sort of GM. Those who rely more on research to get ideas and don't have that much spontaneity or improv talent and rely on research for ideas to try. That said it was ok and great when you are new to the genre. The framework Kenneth Hite gives is quite heavy, and its best broken down to smaller chunks and discussed with players and fellow GMs technicality. Its not something that can be purely inside someone's head without feedback and testing and experimentation.
Its great when I bought it when it first came out, I wanted a book that gave its Philosophical view and gave me concepts like scale and scope.
But without other GMs or someone to discuss this with - horror is difficult because it has to adapt ALOT to the audience (the players).

PURCHASER
I wouldn't say I liked this book at all for three significant reasons. First, the entire thing read like a lecture on the psychology of horror, and I don't buy these things for lectures on things I find boring. Second, it missed a huge amount of popular topics in the area of horror fiction and comics in general. And finally, because the core of it was 'Call of Cthulu' and I, for one, don't like that all that much. There are too many of the author's religious opinions and not enough of the actual information about the genre—all in all, a disappointing buy. I am sorry I bought it.

That's interesting, I was thinking of getting this; religious opinions against or in favor of religion?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
