100 Oddities for a Treasure Hoard

Welcome to "100 Oddities for a Treasure Hoard," the ninth entry in Skirmisher Publishing’s popular "Oddities" series! This publication features 100 unique things characters might encounter in an otherwise mundane collection of loot and includes guidelines for ways to introduce Oddities into your game sessions or stories in a fun and compelling way.

Have you ever needed to stock a treasure hoard? If you are the storyteller for a game, the answer to that question is undoubtedly a resounding yes! At the end of a long and perilous quest, the heroes (and their players) usually look forward to some tangible material reward for their efforts. But it can be difficult to get beyond randomized coinage and a handful of gems, especially if you are pressed for time. And ambitious players are always on the lookout for innovative, exciting, and unique loot after a hard day of Dragon-slaying and overlord overthrowing. Well, we at Skirmisher Publishing are here to help, and have done far more than just compile a loot list. We have, in fact, created some valuable oddities!

Oddities are intended to aid storyteller creativity, turning possibly bland areas or gaming episodes into something more, and the goal of this publication is to make things more fun and to take your imagination in directions it might not otherwise have gone. They fill in the corners of a bookshelf, a room, a level, a story or scenario, with all the sorts of things that add interest but take loads of time to come up with.

~ TSRPG (Travel-Sized RPG) ~

Be sure to check out Skirmisher Publishing's popular and Platinum-bestselling TSRPG (Travel-Sized RPG)! This rules-light storytelling game can easily be played anywhere, from the airport waiting area you are stuck in, to the overnight in some hotel where there is nothing to do (and also, of course, in your own home). All the basic rules fit on one page; no dice are needed; characters have just two stats; and any bookkeeping that might be required can be done on a cocktail napkin with a pen borrowed from a waiter. TSRPG is fully supported with sourcebooks that include "Arms, Armor & More," "Wands, Wagons, Whips & More," and "OS-TSRPG," along with 10 compelling scenarios, "A Long Way to the Top," "Beating Around the Bush," "A Midsummer Night's Scheme," "On the Plane of Magma," "A Violet Shade of Death," "A Rose for Erato," "Into the Terrorium," "Whiskey in the Jar," "Krampusnacht: Night of the Krampus!," and "Temple of the Banished Suns," all of which include pregenerated characters and the basic rules for the game, allowing them to function as quick-starts for it. We have also had TSRPG translated into a number of other languages, including German (along with three adventures, „Eine Rose für Erato,“ „Auf der Ebene des Magmas,“ and „Tempel der Verbannten Sonnen,“ along with the „OS-TSRPG" supplement), Spanish (along with four adventures, "Una Rosa Para Erato," "Un Tono Violeta de Muerte," ""¡El Plan de Una Noche de Verano"," and "En el Plano de Magma" and the "Armas, Armaduras y Más" and "Varitas, Vagones, Látigos y Más!" supplements), and Ukrainian

Such a wonderful work. Full of ideas to delve into and make a rich atmospheric scenes play out beyond the dice. There are some really inspired "oddities" here for encountering a treasure hoard. It actually turns the treasure into an encounter. It could be something strange about the area, specific items, and it even fleshes out what kind of treasure down to what the coins are shaped and made of. Thank you Skirmisher your team continues to add depth into areas of gaming most people give a pass to.

This is great. I wonder if there is the possibility of getting a print friendly addition with just the list and none of the graphics as part of the package. I have a folder with useful lists in it that I can use on the fly in games, and I'd like this list to be in my folder but needs to be a few less pages. Thanks! Great product.

Thank's for the kind words. I'll talk with our editor and see if we can get a printer-friendly version of Oddities together.

What was everyone's favorite entry? Mine was the curator golem, followed closely by the fell blade Murderbringer.

Will, the Curator Golem you mentioned is definitely one of my favorite entries in "100 Oddities for a Treasure Hoard," as much as anything because of the great illustration you did for it! It is hard to pick an absolute favorite from 100 great items, but I do especially like the heretical lapis lazuli holy symbol.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
