GM's Maps #3: Large 19th Century Town House (Reissue)

Map making can be time-consuming and sometimes frustrating for GMs, especially GMs with limited time to begin with. In our new 'GM's Maps' range, we will be providing a range of pre-made maps for you to use in your games.

To bring this product into line with the current products in the range, the PDF has been expanded to include more detail and to include a dozen adventure hooks and ideas. A colour version of the map has been added to the PDF, and we have included VTT optimised tiles of the full-colour version of the map.

This map pack depicts a 19th-century townhouse suitable for a middle to lower upper class Victorian or Edwardian family, also suitable for the modern-day.  With an extensive basement, three stories plus attic the house is ideal for haunting or as a base of operations for your investigators.

Included are basic old-school versions (with and without grid) as well as a full-colour version and full-colour version with numbers.  You also get a PDF that discusses the history and use of such homes, includes an optional key to the map and over a dozen adventure ideas set in and around the house.  You also receive VTT optimised versions of the map so you can play online, and instructions for resizing the tokens to best effect.

Examples of the adventure hooks:-

2/. The Hungering House by Patrick Heaviside

A huge number of people died in the construction of the house, in a variety of accidental circumstances. The bodies were secretly interred under the foundations.

The site it was built on was previously a place of ritual sacrifice. The entity still hungers for fresh souls/the land still hungers for flesh.

Without regular deaths in the house it begins to crack and crumble and take a toll on the owners, causing visions and injuries. It won't let them leave.

They are the unwilling custodians of insatiable and ancient power.

4/. Two Worlds by Steve Davis

There are two families, one by day and another by night. They're ignorant of each other.

11/. The Fellowship of The Plaything by Daniel Dunlavey

John and his brother Michael have an abundance of childhood imagination and whimsy, seemingly not shared by their gruff father. Their father confiscated their 7 favourite wooden toys because they were making noise while he was writing. But our great heroes will rescue them from their prison, reimagining the house as a world populated by ghostly maids, a monstrous whip-cracking nanny, s'Mog the greedy cat dragon, and The Dark Lord in his Study of Forbidden Knowledge.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
