GM's Maps #2: Monastery (Reissue)

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Map making can be time-consuming and sometimes frustrating for GMs, especially GMs with limited time to begin with. In our new 'GM's Maps' range, we will be providing a range of pre-made maps for you to use in your games. This is the reissue of one of our earliest maps in the range, upgraded and updated to add full colour VTT tiles and to expand the PDF content.

The Monastery is home to a religious order of monks or similar devotees and is based upon early European examples of Christian monasteries. As such the monks sleep in several dormitories rather than independent.

Suitable for Historical, fantasy, Modern and Pulp campaigns the Monastery is an ideal base for your monastic or clerical characters or as a sight for an adventure. What fate has befallen the missing monks? Or is the apparently devout monastic community hiding something far more sinister?

What you get in this reissed version of GM's Map #2

A PDF including 3 versions of the map (Basic, Oldschool without grid or numbering, Basic Oldschool with grid and numbering, and Full Colour), Background information on monasteries, a key to the map and a dozen adventure scenarios.

15 High resolution VTT tiles of the map in full colour, for use in your virtual table top games.

If you have already purchased the original issue of this product you should be able to upgrade to this reissued and expanded version free by going to your Drivethrurpg or Wargames Vault Library and downloading the current version of the product form there, no new purchase should be necessary.

Sample Adventurer Ideas from this Updated Product

2/. The Serpent's Tears (By Ket Merebit)

Monastic life is simple, and every day filled with quiet contemplation as the brethren go about their daily tasks of prayer, illumination, farm chores, healing the injured, and feeding the snake in the courtyard well.

Nobody knows where it came from or why, all they know is that at dusk every day right as the sun dips below the mountains, an enormous frilled snake in dulled, once-brilliant hues curls up out of the old well and stares at it, crying silently. Although many attempts were made to communicate with it in multiple languages, the snake just watched them in silence, making no move towards or away. So the monks began to bring it some of their simple meals when it appeared and thought of it as another lost soul they were meant to take care of for many years.

However, one day a man who claimed to be on a mission of just retribution came and tried to attack the snake when it appeared, following it down as it fled into the tunnels below.

Devastated and worried about their silent companion, the monks sought the assistance of adventurers to go after them and see what had happened...

8/. Condemned Prophet (By Glyn Heaviside)

A prisoner who is being transported on his way to his execution holds over at the monastery overnight. During a meal provided by the monks, he begins reciting scripture, actively debating with the brothers as to the intention of the divine, before making several predictions that come true. Having never shown even a hint of religious learning previously, both monks and guards are astounded.

Has this criminal been truly anointed? Is he simply attempting to save his neck? And how will the Gods react if their latest chosen keeps his appointment with the executioner?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
