The Octopi of the Ninth World

ADD TO WISHLIST >

The Secrets of a Billion-Year Empire

If the seas have a ruler, it is the octopus. Their empire has outlived the eight Prior Worlds and spans the world’s oceans—all ruled by their queen.

Discover the secrets of the Ninth World’s most ancient and, though it is known to few, pervasive cultures. Face off against the aggressive octopi of the Bay of Peyclin, who are secretly building an army to invade the Ninth World’s lands. Or play an octopus yourself, with a new focus and descriptor for octopi characters.

Building on content from Into the Deep, this supplement gives you more details on the inner workings of the world of the octopodes.

I'd like to be under the sea in an octopus' garden in the shade... Is this supplement for me?

Most of the Text in this PDF is copy/pasted from Into the Deep. There are some additional sentences and the info on playing an octopus is new, but nearly all the backstory is just lifted directly from the other book. <br>

Really disappointing and IMHO definitely not worth 2,99 $. I'm a huge fan of their products and I don't unterstand why they do this and risk negative reactions from their buyers.

Plural of octopus is not octopi, you even appear to realize this in some of the text. Can't take seriously a supplement with such a blatant error in its title, no matter the name on the cover.

It would seem that 1 billion years from now nobody cares that they slapped a Latin plural onto a Greek word.

Gee I sure would hate to be the guy who judges entire supplements off of a common pluralization of a word.

So an important note (and one I was told they address in the supplement, though I haven't picked it up yet) is that Octopus, while a Greek word and thus pluralized as Octopodes (pronounced Ok-top-o-dees), has become colloquially pluralized as "Octopi" and "Octopuses" with Octopi being one of the most commonly recognized. To reflect this, they used each possible plural throughout. As a grammar nerd, I too mentioned that to the MCG team, and was happy with the response!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
