Dungeon Map Tiles

dmt-tile.pngAre you the kind of Game Master who enjoys building your own wizard's maze, monster lair, or long-lost temple ruin?

We are just like you, we love building maps and deadly traps! Thus we have released a series of map tiles just for people like you. The Dungeon Map Tiles art packs consist of "ready-made" map tiles.

Using the map tiles you can build an underground dungeon, an evil (or good) fortress, a large stronghold made of stone, or anything your imagination can come up with.

This map tile pack provides you with a wealth of map tiles that all look like they belong together with the same artistic "look and feel" to them. Plus the tile design means you can assemble the tiles to build a dungeon map of almost any complexity. While on its own this map pack provides all you need to build a dungeon for your players to explore, your creations can be further populated with objects from our Fantasy Furniture Pack, or NPC's and Monsters from packs such as our Goblin Tribes Pack or our Heroes & Heroines: Lords of Adventure pack.

Raw Image Files Art Assets Edition

The package contains a wealth of raw image files in JPG and PNG file formats. These image files form the building blocks which you can assemble into the form of a dungeon, fortress, or whatever kind of structure you desire. The image files can be imported into graphics editing applications such as Photoshop, or Gimp. However, the image files can also be imported into virtual tabletop applications such as FoundryVTT.

Map Tile Artwork: Each map tile is a combination of photographic source material combined with hand-drawn artwork, giving each map tile a unique style. All of the tiles have been rendered from a birds-eye view of the landscape, with shadowing used to give the illusion of depth.

Scale: Our range of digital role-playing tokens all use a standard scale of 1 inch to 3 pixels, for a standard D&D character square of 180 pixels. Thus all of our Map Tiles also use this character square size. But we have also included smaller 50-pixel square map tiles for those of us who use the smaller 50-pixel square size.

How to use the Dungeon Map Tiles

The map tiles have been made as a kind of ready-made art pack that you can simply just drag-and-drop onto the blank map canvas to build an adventure map. To do this all you need is a graphics editing program such as Photoshop, or Gimp, or a virtual tabletop roleplaying application such as FoundryVTT with its own internal map-building tools.

Simply start with a blank map canvas, then start dragging in each tile and placing them on the page to build your map. Build up your adventure map, block by block, map tile by map tile. That is it!

For instructional tutorials, we have a number of Livestreams on the Studio WyldFurr Youtube channel that display how to create adventure maps with the Map Tiles in this package. A video is also displayed at the bottom of this product description.

13/10/2022 Update

A small update was added to the package on the 13th of October 2022 that added new Grass Tiles aimed at giving map creators the ability to create overlapping areas of grass over different ground textures. The update also adds some black-and-white fades to give you the ability to add depth to staircases and passageways to create transitions between dungeon levels. We have a Livestream on our studio YouTube channel that demonstrates the new features.

These look to be a great help, but I have not been able to find a way to use them. The links to the programs that are listed as useable do not exist or do not work. I haven't given up completely but it is very difficult. [...]

Very useful set. Started using it for my Pathfinder campaign today. So far so good. However - I think there are some key tiles missing - wide stairs. (Or stairways with only one wall.) Other than that - excellent. I'm looking forward to how it [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
