Local villagers whisper of a mysterious place deep in the marsh - a place shrouded in mist and dotted with barrow mounds, ruined columns, and standing stones. The tomb-robbers who explore beneath the mounds - or rather the few who return - tell tales of labyrinthine passages, magnificent grave goods, and terrifying creatures waiting in the dark. Are you brave (or foolish) enough to enter the Barrowmaze?

Barrowmaze Complete (BMC) is a classic old school megadungeon for use with Labyrinth LordTM and other fantasy role-playing games. BMC includes everything in Barrowmaze I and II in the same book in addition to new material, art, layout, and cover art by Ex-TSR artist Erol Otus.

Barrowmaze Complete will keep your players on their toes and your campaign going strong.

BMC is brought to you by the Old School Renaissance (so don’t forget your 10’ pole).

This edition includes art by the aforementioned TSR artists Erol Otus, as well as Tim Truman, Jim Holloway. New old-school artists include Peter Pagano, Cory Hamel, Stefan Poag, Zhu Bajie, Stephan Thompson, and others.

Yes, I do provide the PDF if you buy the book at a convention from Black Blade Publishing. You should be able to message me on Facebook or G+ easy enough :)

I just bought the hardcover of this at GaryCon and was told that If I contacted you here I could get a discount code to get the PDF. I don't see an options to email the publisher. Can you assist me ?
Thank you.

I assume that a map comes with the book? I have the originals, but I understand that there have been some additions. Not really interested in the PDF, just the hardback -- so really hoping that a map is involved.

Greg W.'s review lists a bunch of URLs which are supposed to provide supplemental examples. Unfortunately, whatever used to be at those URLs no longer exists, lessening the impact of his review IMO.

John D, if you scroll down on *this* ("Discussions") page, you'll see that I addressed that in a separate post, back on May 26, 2015. "Essentially, the links in that piece won't work unless you remove the "-" at the end of the lines." Here are the links again:

A player's guide/handbook would be GREAT. Character sheet, background and a player's map of the above ground would be very nice.....

Interesting idea, but not really a part of Old School play :)

First I introduced Barrowmaze I into the campaign. We loved it. However, when I then bought Barrowmaze complete, I noticed that the stuff was incompatible. The map of the mounds is different and the numbering scheme is different.

Is there a list of conversions?

I wrote a review of this product under the other tab. BTW, the links in that piece won't work unless you remove the "-" at the end of the lines. Anyway, I'm opening to answering questions about the product here for those who want to know more.

This adventure will keep a group occupied for many many months and/or years (depending on how much you play). I use the PDF for my group as it's easier to find/search/mark items. It's also a fair bit cheaper and makes it even more worth the value of entertainment your group will get it out it.

If you enjoy old school dungeon adventures, you'll enjoy Barrowmaze.

I have BM1 and have run it, and enjoyed it, I used it to break in a group of OD&D and RPG newbies, they loved it too...

I'm afraid I can't justify the cost of the whole package, would have been good to get BM2...

Hey ho.

Off to the anomolous subsurface environment for me....

The cost is close to what people paid during the crowdfunding campaign. You can view it yourself online.

I have a profession and a family, I write games as a labour of love. If you want an approach used by a game company, then go buy their uninspiring products devoid of charm.

I keep it real fells. I don't mince words.

Barrowmaze Complete is widely regarded as one of the gems of the OSR. However, if it isn't your think, that's great, go buy some Wotc stuff.

Whoah-m'gosh! -- all the non-minced words! Let me catch my breath here... OK.

You do realize we are not facing a binary choice between Barrowmaze and WotC, right? It's totally fine if you want to market your product as a Cadillac, but it's pretty insufferable to suggest that we can't get "charm" at a more attractive price point.

It was merely an example. There are many awesome OSR products that show patience and care in their creation.

As an owner of both BM I and BM II, I feel a little disappointed that there isn't an 'upgrade' path to this product. Whilst I have thoroughly enjoyed running multiple groups through the originals, I simply can't justify the outlay for the new version as a straight up purchase.

For anyone who hasn't yet bought the originals, then this may well be the way to go.

I'm the same way. I have already sunk $30 with BM I, the Map (a must to run online), and Illustration book 1.

Me too. I bought BMI and BMII, both illustration sad about this.

you got screwed. And the price for this pdf is way too high.

I just noticed that they don't even show you a few pages inside. So youre buying it sight unseen.

Barrowmaze has received very warm reviews. Look for Barrowmaze I and Barrowmaze II on this site, and was praised highly here:
and here:
This is a new collection of both parts, with additional art and layout. I'm comfortable it's worth the money.

Or Bryce Lynch

I love DM'ing Barrowmaze. I love the originals, and I like the setting added for BMC

Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
