Mark Morrison's Deadwave

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Somebody is back from the grave — Somebody bad

Somebody who should have stayed dead — Somebody who didn't

Somebody who wants to get even with the agents of this defeat — Somebody with a terrible plan: The Deadwave.

Deadwave is Mark Morrison's classic Call of Cthulhu scenario of zombie-fuelled revenge from beyond the grave. Designed to be woven into the fabric of an ongoing campaign, it offers a detailed yet flexible template from which a Keeper can easily create a memorable and deadly adventure.

This time, it's not in some terrible Mansion of Madness that the horror will be found ... it will come for the Investigators in their own homes!

Deadwave is written in a unique format which can be easily run in any of the three major Call of Cthulhu era — classic 1920s, Gaslight-era London, or modern day. Separate handout sets are provided for each, capturing the unique look-and-feel of the era.

Originally written in 1994 and published in the (text-based) online Chaosium Digest, this version entirely revamps and expands Mark Morrison's original manuscript text, sets it amid flavour-rich art and formatting, and adds period-authentic prop-quality handouts.

The download was flawless, and the one thing I really found OK or better were layout & roleplaying stats. Deadwave delivers a crude & obvious horror, alike Zombie-Apocalypse, escaped lunatic killer, or monster-hunter aka gut-the-nextbest-orc ki [...]

Deadwave is a great little adventure that can slot in nicely into just about any campaign. [...]

The evils you combat in Call of Cthulhu are by and large impersonal: alien powers (or deities) that can crush you like a bug and for whom you investigators are no more than bugs, albeit somewhat pesky ones at times. This adventure is different. [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
